According to the IPCC, food systems contribute to approximately one third of global climate-altering emissions. This estimate varies depending on the components of the system that are considered, and cities play a significant role in promoting climate sensitive policies on the "urban side of food systems," but also with a number of inderect effects at a global level.
This session presents key data, information, experiences from cities around the world along with the policies that the Brazilian government has promoted and implemented also to work with cities on climate-friendly food policies.
The event has two main objectives:
- to highlight the strategic nature of integrating the two policy agendas on food and climate, and
- to demonstrate the effectiveness of a good connection between local and national policies within a multilevel governance framework.
The event also includes an open and guided dialogue among all participants, aimed at sharing the basis for a future guidance document on climate-sensitive food actions and policies.
