How can we sustain long-term food policies transitions starting from short-term projects (4 years)? This is the central question of the session, which brings together cities and partners from the AfriFOODlinks project.

This panel takes the project as a case study and will broaden the focus, exploring how projects can be assessed in terms of their actual impact in providing frameworks and governance tools to foster long-term policies.

The event connects local experiences with European Union (EU) and African Union (AU) policy frameworks and future investment opportunities, highlighting strategies to ensure the continuity, ownership and resilience in African food systems.

The session starts from the premise that a participatory approach is essential to effectively assess the real impact of urban food policies, and that short-term projects can contribute by generating tools that cities can adopt and use. It will be structured as a one-hour roundtable discussion with six cities, followed by half an hour of open debate.

The panel will share effective experiences from different contexts, with the aim of sharing good practices and developing innovative strategies for dealing with the crucial issue of transforming short-term projects into long-term structural changes.
