The guided field visit offers a deep dive into the history and ongoing activities of this 17th-century farmhouse, now an innovative urban hub for sustainable practices, local food culture, and civic engagement. Cascina Cuccagna is a unique and emblematic site in the heart of Milan that combines urban regeneration and community-led food systems transformation.
Participants will learn about:
- Creation and governance model of the Food Aid Hub Cuccagna, a collaborative public-private initiative;
- The Cascina’s Food Aid Hub model, combining sustainability, education, and social inclusion;
- Initiatives for food waste prevention, circular economy, and environmental awareness;
- Community-driven programs that promote healthy diets, support local producers, and strengthen the urban-rural nexus;
- Engagement strategies that foster a participatory approach to territorial development.
The visit ends with an informal networking aperitif, featuring local and seasonal products, offering a taste of the Cascina’s values and Milan’s food heritage.
This field visit is a unique opportunity for political delegates, city officials, and international experts to explore concrete examples of how urban food policies are implemented on the ground, and to draw inspiration from an inclusive, place-based approach to food systems transformation.
